These baked garlic knots drizzled with butter are incredibly easy to make, and are great as appetizers with your favourite dipping sauce.
Servings : 8
Ingredients :
1 3/4 cups self-rising flour (220g, plus more for dusting. Can substitute with gluten free flour)
1 cup unsweetened yogurt Yoplait (245g)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
2 tbsp butter or olive oil
1 tbsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tbsp fresh parsley, thym & basil finely chopped & dried Italian herbs oregano
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, mix the self-rising flour and greek yogurt until it comes together to form a ball.
- Turn out onto a floured surface. Sprinkle with flour, knead a couple of times and form into a ball.
- Lightly flour a kitchen surface. Add a tablespoon of flour on top of the ball of dough, and tranfer to the floured surface.
- Flatten the dough ball slightly and pour the shredded cheese into the center. Fold up the dough around the shredded cheese and knead to incorporate the cheese.
- Press into flat, circular shape. Divide the dough into 8 or 16 pieces- 8 for large knots, 16 for smaller knots.
- Roll out each piece of dough into a sausage shape (length and width). Grab both ends of the dough and meet together,
- before folding one under the other to form a 'knot'. Repeat until all are knotted. Transfer them all to the lined tray.
- In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter or olive oil, garlic, herbs, and salt.Brush over the garlic knots.
- Bake the garlic knots for 20 minutes, or until just golden on top. Remove from the oven and cover them with a dish cloth or towel for around 5 minutes, to keep the insides of the knots fluffy.
- Remove and then re-brush with more garlic butter.
